Electric Car Warranty

Our 7-year or 100,000 mile car warranty offers the same comprehensive cover as standard to Electric Cars as it does our petrol, Hybrid, and Plug-In Hybrid vehicles. This includes protection for essential EV components such as the electric motor, gear drive unit (GDU), electric power control unit (EPCU), and the on-board charger (OBC).

Perhaps, most importantly, the EV battery pack is also covered under a separate 8-year warranty. Kia will carry out any repairs or replacements required for electric batteries that fall below 70% capacity within 8 years from the date of purchase.

What’s the catch?

Is the clutch covered under a car warranty?

Clutch repairs are generally not covered under standard car warranties as it is classed as a wear and tear component. Clutch parts naturally degrade over time through normal use. As a result, most manufacturer warranties exclude clutch issues unless the failure is clearly due to manufacturing fault or premature failure that isn't linked to driver usage.

Kia's 7 - year car warranty covers clutch linings for defects in material or workmanship for 24 months from the date of first registration or 12,500 miles whichever comes first.

Is the battery covered under a car warranty?

A car battery is regarded as a consumable item, meaning it is subject to gradual wear and tear, and may only be covered by a warranty for a limited time. Battery cover periods can vary significantly between manufacturers, so it's an important detail to check when purchasing a new vehicle.

Kia's 7-year car warranty does include coverage for 12V and 48V batteries but only for the first 24 months from the date of registration. In contrast, the high voltage battery in an electric vehicle is protected by a separate 8-year or 100,000 mile warranty, providing long-term reassurance for EV drivers.
